CaseLines makes it easy to load documents directly into an electronic bundle using secure cloud-based facilities. There is no software to install and the service is easy to use. CaseLines automatically creates the index and re-paginates the e-Bundle, putting sections into date order automatically with sub-numbering for late arriving documents. Easy hyperlinking, indexing and re-pagination delivers substantial cost savings compared to using a conventional folder/file structure written to CD or pen drive.
CaseLines also offers a number of options to automatically upload documents and build bundles, further increasing the savings, and where resources are limited, the experienced CaseLines team can also provide a bundle loading service.
A key advantage of using CaseLines compared to traditional pdf bundles is that counsel and other parties can start work on the bundle even before it is finalised; this is because hyperlinks and annotations can be added to documents before the bundle is complete, safe in the knowledge that when new documents are added the relative positions of links and notes will remain undisturbed. CaseLines offers full text based and “sounds like” searching within the case, making it easy to build up a line of argument. Finally, CaseLines offers extensive annotation facilities, with the ability to share notes within a restricted community (for example, solicitor, leading counsel and junior can share notes – this feature is a major benefit in the Crown Courts, where counsel might have to “return” a case; with CaseLines, all the preparation notes are retained and can be passed to newly instructed counsel).
CaseLines really comes into its own in the Courtroom. The service is so easy to operate that Counsel can do so without assistance whilst simultaneously cross-examining witnesses or summing up – indeed thousands do so every day! All parties in the court can follow the case using a range of devices, including tablets, laptops and PC’s. The judge or tribunal chair can make notes on the case as it progresses and can copy/paste text from documents for summing up later.
CaseLines requires no courtroom operator. This saves external costs, and offers total flexibility – there is no advance set up required, and no disruption if the case has to be re-listed on short notice to another court. Above all, because there are no set up costs, CaseLines is cost effective with any case – from a 100 page criminal prosecution to a 200,000 page tax fraud case.
